What, Price Wonderland?

What Price, Wonderland? are a band constantly progressing yet somehow they manage to continually sound fresh. Its pretty hard for me to explain entirely what they sound like, without trying to sound disingenuous, there is very little to compare them with. Though recently when talking to a friend he gave me the description "Like Cap'n Jazz if they were punk!" and however tongue in cheek that response may seem - it stands reasonably true, there are definitely similarities between the bands. Just like Cap'n Jazz, WPW have a great talent for song writing - The music never lags unnecessarily and meanders quickly; after listening you are left with the taste of being satisfied yet hungry for more. When seen in the company of many insincere punk bands of the moment, the most refreshing aspect of WPW is the honesty with which they play. The vocals are hollered over the sound of jagged guitars and the continual rolling of both bass and drums. Its a music you can believe in. With fear of sounding unbelievably trite, WPW are a hugely emotional band in the truest sense. The pace of the band is cathartic, wild yet at all times introspective and thoughtful. The vocals at times may be crass but they are always true and poignant. Like Cap'n Jazz, What Price, Wonderland? manage to sound both teenage and mature; In both bands nothing is hidden, everything is put on the line and everything is believed in. Just in listening to WPW records you can get a taste of the passion, angst and dissatisfaction in the band and you can't help but like it.

Sister Mantos UK tour!!!

Born in a dungeon somewhere out LA, Sister Mantos is a group of awesome Dudes forwarding a sound which is pretty unique. If pushed i would describe the music as somewhere between a mix of pyschadelic electronica and wonky Italo Disco, but this fails to really sum up the delight of the band. Sister Mantos are a thinking mans dance music, well produced sounds which flicker through steadily held rhythms and without being either particularly new or original the band remain progressive and forward thinking. As well as being irresitably dancable, Sister Mantos have periods of introspection and melancholia. What stays true, each song is beautiful in its own way, you confront at all times perfectably formed soundwaves ready to nestle in your ear. I cannot wait for their UK tour at the end of the month, it promises to be totally rowdy.
